Capturing the intimate journey of soon-to-be parents during a maternity shoot is like witnessing the start of a beautiful love story, because we are at the "here comes the baby carriage!" part, and ain't that cute? As a Calgary-based maternity and newborn photographer, I specialize in artfully capturing these moments with authenticity and warmth...Even if that wind is whippin' ya in the face.
Calgary, with its picturesque landscapes, offers a stunning backdrop for outdoor shoots, scoring a perfect 10 from end of May to beginning of October. However, being candidly Albertan, I acknowledge that weather here can be unpredictable year-round. Take, for instance, this recent shoot at the end of April. Despite the impending snowfall, we embraced the windy elements, laughing at the whims of Mother Nature. The wind, though fierce, only added to the adventure. What photographer doesn't love some blonde strands catching the breeze? Woof. All of us.
Mike and I shot in tandem this round, and we joked with the soon to be parents about challenges it would have posed with young children in tow. Thankfully, the only small human present was snugly wrapped and the warmest among us.
Maternity sessions fall towards the beginning-middle of your 3rd trimester, and this can be during a time of year when the weather is still very much confused about whether it is spring or still winter. Yay Calgary! Love that for us.
Huge shout out to my lovely clients who totally embraced the magic of whatever weather came our way. Entrusting your photographer to pivot or drum up a vibe for your shoot with crappy weather is key. And bonus points to our clients for dressing for the flippin' cold spring weather we usually get. Tish wore a form fitting sweater dress that was perfect for this transitional weather and Steve had on a heavy weight Henley. I love a wool shaket or chunky knit for Calgary Spring photography. Still feel's springy but cuts the wind.
Despite Calgary's spotty warm seasons, I promise to make your maternity session part of your unique journey into parenthood, come rain, shine, or snow. Enjoy these maternity photos!
