Coming up with a caption when the photos speak for themselves alludes me. So far I have: Future girl mom of 2, gorgeously, stupidly, stunningly beautiful.

To quote an angel, “In Maui, as it is in heaven.”
This was our family baby moon, where the knowingness of being less hands-free, less adventurous, hung in the air. (Though Mike would say I’ve already been pretty useless, parked in my beach chair for 99% of the trip.)

I had to let go of the idea that we’d be doing this again anytime soon. But looking back at these photos, I realized a lot of the views I love most came home with me.

Maui, I love you. But letting you go was easier than I expected…because the best part of it all is still here with me.

PS: Also… not me casually wondering if Mike can just take over all my clients while I’m on maternity leave.

Side note: these photos were taken 45 minutes before we got on the plane home. I didn’t want them all trip. I felt tired and large and over it. But in the literal final hour, I stripped down to the only bra that currently fits and surprisingly swimsuit-like underwear, zero makeup and ran into the Maui sunset one last time.

I’m so glad I did.

And if you feel self-conscious as your body stretches and shifts to make room, same…SAME. I get it. BUT never in my life has everything felt so temporary.

She was the lead photographer, and I had yet to follow her on Instagram. Between shoots, chugging my fourth bottle of water in my air-conditioned car, I scrolled her feed for the first time and thought, “holy shit, this Rebecca Frank is levelling up the Calgary photography game.” (Little did I know it was the Canadian photography game…)

Her composition and artfulness hit me first. Then a few months later, her editing shifted and somehow became more “off-the-chain” than it already was. Then almost immediately after her first “new editing” style IG post, it became the style everyone was trying to emulate.

But instead of making you want to shrivel up and compare yourself to death, she made you feel lucky just to be in the same space. She made you think “ok I’m going to pull out my flash next shoot and brave out this new world of “not just natural consistent lighting”. She was one of the reasons I became obsessed with direct sun.

She’s set the bar, no question, but more importantly, she’s smashed the invisible expectation of creative gatekeeping. She actually shares knowledge, no hoarding, no vague answers.

Most recently, she threw together a flash workshop, bringing some of Calgary’s most insane talent together. She jokingly called it her “shitty flash non-workshop workshop,” and if this is shitty, I cannot wait to see what’s next. It was unreal. Over the top. And exactly who she is: humbly leading the helm of community and education while also still being a learner herself.

Can’t wait to see where she goes as an educator and in her business. She is the most modest creative genius and had us all feeling #blessed to be in her presence at this super “shitty” non workshop- workshop.

More than ok to leave the hubs at home for a maternity session (or at least in the car for part of the shoot). Some gorgeous black and white of my muse from 2024. When we collaborated, I created a Pinterest board of some vibes we both had in mind for our maternity session that essentially snowballed into a year long inspiration board. Thank you Miss Devany for filling my cup all the way into 2025.

I got to photograph baby Mia over the weekend. Her parent’s maternity session still has me in a posting paralysis vice grip because I’m sooooo deeply obsessed with each image, I want them all to be front and centre on my grid. Anyways I love how the summer babies are dropping right before a polar vortex, perfect timing cuties. I’ll be sharing bebe Mia with the hair of an actual goddess asap!

A perfect quiet family session before this little guy arrives.

So grateful for @thegallerystudioyyc. This studio has made clients feel like Goddesses without having to madly clean their houses before I show up. It has been a 10/10 photographer/client experience and honestly has been one of my most favourite and stress free parts of my 2024 year.

How your emails find me from November through March…👆🏻 If you’re getting a message from your “friendly photographer,” just know it’s coming from someone who rarely has time to swap from mom-mode to business-mode. Most of my emails are fired off from my bed at 6 am, right after my delightful 4-year-old screams for me to help him with bathroom duties, that require an adult’s fine-motor skills. TMI? Maybe.

But here I am—, shooting off emails with a few typos and thinking, “I look cute and real”, as she hits send and heads down the hall to madly lay out 3 different pant options; for her 4 year old, to dramatically log roll towards, in slow motion, to then proclaim: he only wears shorts because Damien only wears shorts to school. Shout out to Damien.

It’s a juggling act being my own secretary, nanny, chef, and pretend type-A professional. Half the time, I’m emailing you between shouts of “MOM, MOM, MOM!” from the other room. So, thank you for being the coolest clients, for being moms on the front lines yourselves, and for “totally getting it.” Without you, I’d be spiraling in anxiety, convinced everyone’s annoyed with me and that my client experience isn’t fancy enough. What I lack in client experience I make up for in final product. 🫠🫡
